Question: I am tired of using Intra uterine system which caused heavy and long bleeding and long sterm spotting for more than 30 days so after 7 months and stopped using contraceptive for a while. Now i am priscribed rigevidon by my doctor today. Is is safe for woman like me to have rigevidon ?Will it cause any side effects like long term and heavy bleeding ? Is it the suitable contraceptive for me ?
Answer: IUDs may cause heavy and prolonged bleeding whereas the pill usually alleviates menstrual flow. You should discuss this matter with the doctor who fitted your IUD. The IUS Mirena may also be an option for you. If you do decide to switch to the pill, please remember that you need to have the IUD removed prior to taking the pill.
