Question: Hello I was given Rigevidon for my contraceptive pill and I wasnt told that after the first pack you need to have a 7 day break so Ive just gone directly onto the second is that ok? Secondly, whilst on this pill I keep on having the brown discharge the stuff you normally get at the end of a period. I'm thinking of phoning my GP because I dont want this happening.

Answer: You are concerned because you are on the pill and have started to have increased brown bloody discharge The amount of discharge we have is often influenced by hormonal changes in the woman's body. The week before a period, being pregnant or using the oral contraceptive pill are all typically associated with an increase in vaginal discharge. A normal, physiological, discharge is usually clear, creamy or very slightly yellow. It is advisable to consult a doctor if any of the following changes are noticed as they may indicate that the discharge is caused by infection (vaginitis). If there is suddenly a greater amount of discharge. If the discharge changes colour from yellow-whitish to brownish, reddish or greenish. If it becomes smelly. The amount of discharge varies from woman to woman. Different women probably also have different opinions of what is normal. But if it always involves using panty shields, or changing protection or underwear several times a day, then it is probably heavier than normal and a doctor should be consulted. Because your discharge has changed I would recommend that you visit your GP and discuss it with them for further advice Maybe it is all so advisible after the next strip taking a break for 7 days and the brownish discharge is over
