Question: I'm a student and have recently had unprotected sex. I'm taking the pill, so can be pretty sure I'm not pregnant. What is the risk of having caught AIDS?

Answer: The pill cannot protect your from catching STIs, so you really must use a condom with all partners whether new or old, until you both go for testing and get the all clear. The risk of catching HIV/AIDS is very slim, however incidences of nearly all STIs is up. Rates of Chlamydia, Herpes and Syphilis are especially worrying. Thankfully most common STIs can be cleared up with a course of antibiotics, but if you are planning on having sex with strangers you may want to re-evaluate the kind of contraception you are using.
