Question: I am currently on the Depo Provera contraceptive injection and have been for some time, without a period. However today I have started a lighter period than normal but heavier than spotting and it has not stopped. I am going on holiday on Monday and now do not have the oppurtunity to visit the doctor. I have some of my pill left from before and friends have suggested I start taking it now to stop my period for the next 5 days while I am on holiday. I was wondering if this was safe to do so.
Answer: You could take Norethisterone for a short period of time, this would mean an increased hormone dose however if you are only going to do this for a few days this should be fine.
